Highlight of the Week: Tynes and Waldon, Freshmen Class Representatives!

This week’s “Highlight of the Week” features two wonderful Elon freshmen from the metropolitan area of Atlanta, GA. Becca Tynes and Ben Waldon were recently elected Freshman Class Vice President and Freshman Class Senator for the class of 2013! I had the opportunity to get to know both of these amazing freshmen as I was their Admissions Counselor. I am very proud of them both and look forward to following their many successes throughout the rest of their collegiate careers. Both students were kind enough to answer a few questions, so please take a moment to view their responses. Enjoy! Congrats Becca and Ben!

Why did you decide to attend Elon? I fell in love with Elon the second I set foot on campus. Everyone is so friendly, the academics are incredible, and the campus is gorgeous.

What is your position with SGA? Vice President of the Freshmen Class

What are your responsibilities? Every Thursday night, we have a Senate meeting where we discuss upcoming plans, events, and vital issues. The Freshmen Senators also meet once a week- usually for dinner on Sunday night. At the last meeting, we discussed ideas for an event we plan to host for our class sometime this fall.

What has your Elon experience been so far? I love Elon more and more every day. After getting involved with SGA and other organizations on campus, I already feel like I am a part of the Elon community. I have learned so much in my classes, especially about current issues in the world today, and I actually enjoy attending them. All of the girls in my dorm are incredible, and I have already made friendships that I know will last for a long time.

What piece of advice would you share with prospective students that have hopes of attending Elon?  If I could offer you one tip of advice regarding the college process, I would tell you to show interest. Visit Elon’s campus, tour the school, sit in on class, and email your representative. Let the school know that this is where you want to be. Don’t stress, good luck, and I hope to see you next year!

Move-In Weekend!

Approximately 1290 students and their families made their way to campus on Friday, August 28th to begin their collegiate careers as Elon students!  Move-In Weekend was very eventful and despite scattered rain showers, students and their families were determined to make their move-in experience a great one!  The campus was booming and everyone was on hand to help families get situated, including our University President, Dr. Leo Lambert.

We are so happy to have the Class of 2013 on campus and look forward to yet another great bunch of students contributing to the Elon community!  Welcome Class of 2013!

Summer Welcome Event – Class of 2013!!

This past Tuesday I was in Atlanta, GA for a Summer Welcome Event (one of many Elon Summer Welcome Events) hosted by the Miller family.  Approximately 20 incoming freshman and their families were in attendance.  Students were able to meet and mingle with other students from all over the metropolitan area.

It was nice to be able to officially welcome students to Elon before Move-In Weekend.  I really enjoyed being able to talk, put a face with a name and catch up with students who have been admitted to Elon as early as December 2008.

As the summer quickly comes to an end, I look forward to the next academic year where I can begin visiting high schools, attending college fairs, building relationships with students and their families, application reading and planning events for prospective students.  However, until I head out on the road for Fall travel, I will anxiously wait until Move-In Weekend!  The countdown begins!
