Decisions, Decisions, Decisions…

Time seems to fly by these days!  It has been a month and a day since my last post and I know you are just itching to know what has consumed my time.  Like many of my colleagues, I have been splitting my time with spring travel, application reading, decision-making and spring event planning.  Although travel and event planning are important, my top priority has been application reading and decision-making.  As many of you are aware, we release our final decisions Monday, March 15th!

Overall, we are finishing strong this year!  We have an increase in our total number of applications.  We have an increase in enrollment deposits.  We have an increase in the total number of enrolling students (last year we were looking to enroll 1275 freshmen and this year we are looking to enroll 1350).  We have an increase in Fellows applicants and candidates.  We have an increase in excitement from our staff about ALL of the wonderful applications that we’ve received this year!

Admission has been very competitive this year!  On March 15th students can expect one of the following decisions:  admit, spring admit, waitlist, or decline.  If you have any questions about your decision, please contact your Admissions Counselor!

Good luck to all who are still waiting to hear!

Highlight of the Week: Early Action Decisions Revealed!

As of Friday, December 18th, the Undergraduate Admissions Office will officially release our admissions decisions for Early Action applicants!  Historically, Early Action has been our most competitive applicant pool and this year will be no exception.  If you have applied to Elon Early Action, you will receive one of three decisions:  admit, decline or defer.  If you are deferred your application will be placed in to the Final Deadline applicant pool.  Our office will contact you and ask for more academic material.  Please do not let this decision scare you as being deferred is not the same as being declined.  Here are a few pieces of advice for all decisions:

Admit:  Congratulations!  Please be sure to consider applying for our Fellows Programs (deadline January 10th), as well as completing our financial aid forms if you desire financial assistance.  Also, do not forget to register for one of our Spring Orientation sessions (March 12th-13th and April 23rd-24th)!

Decline:  If you still have interest to attend Elon, your next option would be transfer admissions.  Please feel free to take a peek at our Transfer Admissions website at the following link:  http://www.elon.edu/e-web/admissions/transferstudents.xhtml

Defer:  Don’t panic!  Deferral is NOT the same thing as a decline.  Be sure to submit all academic information requested of you and stay in touch with your Admissions Counselor from your respective state.  It is very important that you stay in touch with your Admissions Counselor about your interest!!!  If you have no idea who your Admissions representative is, the following link will be helpful:  http://www.elon.edu/e-web/admissions/Counselors/default.xhtml

Another deadline has passed and we are offering more students the opportunity to join our Elon family!  If you are a senior and are interested in applying to Elon, you have one more opportunity during Final Deadline.  We will accept all applications postmarked by January 10th!  Good luck to you all!  Early congratulations to all admitted Early Action students!

Early Decision: Congrats to the 1st members of the Class of 2014!

I want to take a moment to congratulate the first members of the Class of 2014!  Today was our decision release date for students who applied before the November 1st deadline for Early Decision.  On behalf of the Undergraduate Admissions Office, we are so happy to welcome you to the Elon family!

The next release date is for Early Action on December 18th!  The Early Action applicant pool is shaping up to be very competitive and significantly larger than last year!  We are very excited about the next freshman class and look forward welcoming them on campus!

Congrats yet again to our first members of the class of 2014!  Go Phoenix!

Home Sweet Home!!!

After 10 weeks of travel for the Elon Admissions Office, I am finally home! Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE to travel and I also love the opportunity to meet so many wonderful students. With that said, there is nothing that compares to being able to sleep in your own bed, having a home cooked meal or watching football while you relax on your own couch. It’s the small things in life that you really miss and take for granted. I’m so excited to be home, can’t you tell?!

On the flip side, being home means a transition in office priorities, duties and responsibilities. Tomorrow our office will begin reading applications for Early Action in addition to the Early Decision applications. I’m very excited to begin reading and reviewing applications from students in AL, AR, FL, GA, HI, LA, and MS. There has been a lot of excitement from students who would like to be a part of the class of 2014, which is spilling over to my excitement to get to know students through their applications. Prospective students of the class of 2014, I wish all luck and peace of mind! December 18th will be here before you know it!
